Welcome back!
People often ask me is what is the best SEM strategy?
I’ve been taught many SEM strategies in the last few years like:
- On page optimization (meta tags, redirects, duplicate content, site map, alt image tags…etc.)
- Off page optimization which is essentially driving relevant text anchor links to your site from: article marketing, blogging, social media, widgets, video marketing…etc.)
So the obvious question is, out of all these options, is there one strategy we can implement that will get us ranked higher in the search engines?
By far, driving relevant links links from high page ranking sites will get you ranked higher in the search engines, even if your site is not optimized. Case in point is the following video example:
My favorite strategy to generate incoming links is to post blog comments on
highly relevant sites within my niche. Each time I enter a comment I make sure
that I have the opportunity to enter my URL and anchor text. Make sure you post
valid comments that add some value and also you want to verify that the blog
supports the “do follow” attribute. A quick way to find out whether this is the case
is by using the NoDoFollow FireFox extension. I try to find out sites with page rank of 6
and above as much as I can. On some of the blogs you might find the “we do Follow” text
if the blog owner installed the dofollow plugin from WordPress. Jason Potash’s Comment Kahuna
software will automatically find “dofollow” blogs for you. The software will locate blogs that
are targeted to your specific niche and meet your PR requirement.
